Milton Village Vet

2024

Milton Village Vet was established in 2005 by husband and wife team of Matthew Tay and Carrie Hawthorn.

Carrie and Matt graduated from Sydney University in the early 1990s and both spent a few years working in Sydney before travelling and working through the UK, Europe and North America. Matt was part of the team that helped establish one of the largest groups of veterinary hospitals in Sydney and was second in charge at Sydney Animal Hospitals, Matraville for eight years and acquired his membership to the prestigious Australian College of Veterinary Scientists in small animal surgery. Carrie worked at Bondi Junction Vet Hospital, Bondi Vet Hospital and Urban Jungle in Miranda. After the birth of their second child they decided to move to the south coast to establish their very own hospital and bring up their growing family in the idyllic surrounds of the Milton Ulladulla region. They found the perfect post-war 1950’s cottage directly across the road from Milton Hospital and over two renovations converted it into the state-of-the-art small animal hospital that you can see today.

The hospital is fully computerised, has two consulting rooms, an indoor and outdoor “happy dog” waiting room, two treatment/critical care rooms, three anaesthetic machines, inhouse laboratory with two Vetscan biochemistry analysers allowing immediate point-of-care diagnostics, dedicated surgery, dental suite including digital radiology and IM3 unit, digital x rays and ultrasound. Since inception the hospital has had an ongoing series of reinvestments and upgrades the most recent being our enormous eight space concrete carpark including disabled space and room on the grass for staff.

In the early days it was just Dr Matt and Dr Carrie and one nurse but as time went on our team slowly grew to now include two kennel hands, a receptionist, six nurses and six vets [some full time some part time due to family obligations]. The hospital has expanded to meet demand as the region slowly grew and we are fortunate to be able to attract and retain veterinary professionals in a very tight market. Our team leader is Dr Carrie and she leads by example. The core of our team was forged through the adversity of the black summer bushfires and then the complexity of the Covid 19 pandemic. All team members are committed to our mission statement and are justifiably proud of the professional services we offer the local community.
